Story

On 12th May 2024 I will be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, with one of the two charities I will be raising money for being PMRGCAuk (Polymyalgia Rheumatica & Giant Cell Arteritis UK).

Kate (or Margaret as she is known to many) is a longstanding family friend, who my wife Esther has known for 22yrs. In Nov-19, Kate lost 100% of her sight due to Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA), but in typical Kate fashion, her resilience & strength has been inspiring.

Most people registered as blind can see objects, shadows or light & dark, however for Kate, this is not possible.

She has continued to live independently with the support of her friends & family, & continues to show the strength of character that anyone who knows Kate will know only too well.

I'm hoping to raise funds for this charity, that will be widely unknown, to help them support other individuals that this lesser known condition may touch.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We help people with Polymyalgia Rheumatica & Giant Cell Arteritis, & raise awareness about these diseases that can suddenly attack people aged 50+. PMR causes extreme pain in the muscles & joints & affects mobiliity. GCR can cause sudden blindness if not treated immediately. We believe we can save the sight of hundreds of people a year by raising awareness.
