We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

On the 12th June 2024 at 42 years old, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour after suffering a series of head-aches over a few weeks, having otherwise felt in good health. On the 28th June, I underwent brain surgery to remove the tumour. On analysis the tumour was determined to be a grade 4 Glioblastoma which is the most aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer.

On meeting with the Oncology Team, I was given a prognosis of 12 - 18 months. Initially my world fell apart but I've since come to recognise the great opportunity that this represents to cast some light on a little known form of cancer that receives just 1% of the national cancer research spend which has resulted in very little development in treatment methods over the past 2 decades.

On the 8th August I started a combined chemo and radiotherapy treatment programme in the hope of pro-longing my life and beating the statistics. I'm determined to lay waste to this prognosis and am relishing the fight ahead. I've always been accused of doing things the hard way so why should this have been any different?

On the 21st September, I'll be running the 20 mile Edale Skyline in the Peak District, supported by 2 close friends, in an effort to raise much needed funds and awareness for this hugely worthy cause and give hope to the many others that are also fighting this cruel disease.

Any help that you are able to extend would be most graciously received. Together we can knock the stuffing out of this thing.

Thank you,

James

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
