Story
St Joseph’s Hospice opened in Hackney in 1905, and since then has been caring for and supporting people affected by serious illness in eight London boroughs. We work to improve the quality of life of more than 2,100 patients with life-limiting conditions each year, helping them live life to the full, to the very last.
We have to raise £16,000 each day to keep our vital services running and available to the 2.2 million people in our diverse community, so every penny raised for our hospice is really important, and very much appreciated.
My Story
My mother Frances has worked in the fundraising team at St Joseph’s Hospice for nearly ten years and aside from calling me to bounce ideas of me for her many spreadsheet formulas, she does often talk about the amazing patient and community support that the hospice provides.
I recently volunteered to help out at the 2024 Light up a Life service, which I found to be a very humbling and eye-opening experience. I had the pleasure of visiting the Ward's and I met some of the staff who do an amazing job at caring for the patients. I also had the opportunity to meet some of the wider teams who are responsible for the day to day management of the Hospice, including the finance, facilities and fundraising teams who do such a fantastic job at keeping the Hospice operational.
I have chosen St. Joseph's Hospice not only because my mum works at the Hospice, but I can truly understand how much support charitable organisations like this really need. If I have to run for a couple of hours, to raise awareness and raise money for St. Joseph's, I think that's a reasonable sacrifice that my knees and ankles are willing to accept.
