Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page supporting the MND Association.
After my mum and brother entered the Great North Run last year, I've decided to enter it with them this year on 8 September 2024, raising money for the MND Association. The furthest I've ever run is 5k - this race will be 13.1 miles so it will definitely be a challenge!
My dad Ken was diagnosed with MND in 2020 after 6 years of undiagnosed symptoms. It is a rapidly progressing neurological disease which attacks the nerves that control movement (motor neurones) so that muscles no longer work. Mental abilities and senses are not usually affected and therefore patients generally remain aware of their deteriorating physical condition. We need to raise awareness. There is no cure. It is always fatal. There is no effective treatment. It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis.
I have also entered the Antrim Coast Half marathon on the 25th August and the Great Run Solo Summer Challenge (running at least 12 times in July with the aim of completing a minimum of 30 miles).
The MND Association focus on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. By sponsoring me your money will help people affected by Motor Neurone Disease and will help researchers gain a better understanding of this condition.
Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the MND Association. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, your details are safe - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Thank you for your support.
