Story
I have been gifted a tandem skydive for my 52nd birthday. As someone who has a fear of falling this is a real challenge.
I wanted to take the opportunity to fundraise for an organisation that I feel is doing really important work. As a person who has been subjected to and witnessed violent crime in the past and also has worked with people subjected to Domestic Abuse and serious youth violence, I have experience of the issues they are trying to address.
I know that every penny raised will ensure that the work continues to save lives, support victims of serious and violent crime and make the change we need to see in our society. Furthermore because the jump has been gifted to me, every penny you give will go to the charity.
The Josh Hanson Trust was established following the murder of Josh at the age of 21 in an unprovoked knife attack. The shock and devastation was far-reaching. Many in our community and beyond, were and continue to be deeply touched by how, in just a few seconds, the life of a hardworking, funny, caring and loving man could have ended, in such a violent way.
Josh's mum, Tracey Hanson, campaigned for justice for her son and ever since has undertaken extensive research and works relentlessly to ensure that the system provides improved care for victims of crime and developed services to support victims trying to navigate the criminal justice system.
Services include
*Trauma informed Fine Lines Art workshops and programmes for children in schools and adults in the community.
*Crime Prevention Presentations sharing Josh's story
*Expert by Experience support for victims and families of murder victims.
Systems change-making includes:
* delivering Victim Care training to Police, Universities, other professionals
* representing victims rights on the Victim Reference Group, Violence Reduction Unit and Home Office
* campaigning for Josh's Law
* promoting the needs of victims and service users at strategic levels
