Story
As some of you may know, almost a year ago I retired from policing, and within just 10 days, I found myself working for the charity "Give A Dog A Bone... and an animal a home". The mission is simple to combat loneliness and isolation in those over 60 while also helping our furry friends. We provide financial support to help people adopt or keep pets, as well as create safe community spaces where individuals can come together for companionship, enjoy a free cuppa and biscuit, and most importantly, share some doggie cuddles (because not everyone can manage a dog of their own).
Every day at work, I witness the positive impact this initiative has on people's lives. I've met some amazing characters and adorable dogs along the way. Personally, I am benefitting from working in this positive environment after years in policing. While our focus is on those over 60, our community spaces are open to everyone. We welcome a diverse range of visitors who all share one common goal: seeking companionship and the joy of cuddling with dogs.
To support ongoing costs for this vital work, my colleagues and I are participating in the Glasgow Kiltwalk on April 26th, 2025. My target is to raise £300 for this wonderful cause! Every donation counts—no matter how small! Just think about it:
- £3 provides a cup of tea and a plate of biscuits for a visitor.
- £5 - £8 supplies dry or wet cat/dog food for our food bank.
- £10 - £20 covers free activities for an over 60 such as Chair Yoga or Creative Writing classes.
- £20 - £30 helps with monthly food bills for their beloved pets.
Thank you so much for your support! If you're ever passing by any of our branches, please pop in for a dog cuddle, cuppa, and a friendly chat!
