Story
Next April will be the 20th anniversary of the year I ran the London Marathon with my dad.
The training was the toughest part of the whole experience. I remember my dad dragging me out for long training runs over the Winter months in the dark, cold, snow, sleet, wind, and rain and there were times where I wondered what on earth I had signed up for!
The day itself was absolutely amazing, well worth all the training and blisters, and one of my favourite memories.
Dad somehow got a ballot place for the London marathon the following year but had to defer as he was repeatedly unwell. Sadly, months of doctor’s appointments led to his diagnosis of prostate cancer, and due to treatment and side effects, he reluctantly gave up his place.
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of his passing. He didn’t get the opportunity to run the marathon again.
I look back on those tough training runs my dad and now understand all too well that nothing should be taken for granted. Next April, my son Ben and I will be running the London marathon for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of my dad. It feels like the right time and I’m excited to make new memories with my favourite young man.
During the Winter months, I will be taking part in various challenges to raise money that will fund research to stop prostate cancer killing men.
Working for the charity, I can confidently say that all my colleagues work incredibly hard to make a difference to men. To find out more about the cause, please read the charity info.
Your support means the world to me and Ben. It will give us a warm glow during the cold and soggy training runs. Thank you so much in advance!
