Fundraising for Alzheimer's Research UK
Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia, is a cruel condition that robs people of independence and destroys relationships with loved ones. As it stands, there are no effective treatments to prevent, cure or slow the progression of the diseases that cause dementia.
However, this can be changed with valuable research, investment and innovation. My Mum is one of many dedicated, hard-working and motivated people at Alzheimer's Research UK (ARUK) who work together to achieve this.
It has become ever clear to me the importance of the development of a cure, treatment or a prevention for this specific type of dementia. In fact, it is becoming more important.
For the past 2 years, dementia was the leading cause of death in the UK. In 2022, dementia and Alzheimer's disease collectively killed 65,967 people. This accounts for over 11% of the UK's total deaths that year. This figure is only going up. By 2050, it is expected that the number of people living with dementia worldwide is set to triple to 153 million.
Charities rely on donation and investment to fund their research into dementia. Inspired by my Mum, I have decided to raise money for ARUK by running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on April 6th 2025. While it is also a personal challenge to train for this, my main goal is to raise over £1,000 for ARUK.
Thank you for supporting this important cause.
