*100% of donations go to Charity*
Dubbed 'the toughest footrace on earth' with only a 53% completion rate in 2021, the Marathon Des Sables is a six-day race totalling 250km (155 miles) across the Sahara Desert. Whilst carrying all necessary rations and equipment, runners will face temperatures upwards of 50°C, with the longest stage covering over 80km…
I first heard about MDS when reading the story of Mauro Prosperi, the Olympic pentathlete who got lost during the 1994 race. For 8 days he survived in the desert by drinking bats blood.
Since then, I have developed a curiosity for ultras and a passion for running. To celebrate turning 30, I decided to take on the challenge, with the aim of supporting a charity and cause with a powerful goal.
In a perfect world, no child would be homeless. Sadly, that is not the reality we live in, a fact that was drilled home recently when a young boy offered me sexual favours on the streets of Accra. He was 7 years old.
There are over 150 million children world-wide struggling to survive in the streets. I have decided to run this event in aid of Street Child United, who uses the power of sport to provide a global platform to support homeless children.
A donation of £50 is enough to support one child on their journey to receiving official identification, allowing them access to healthcare, education and ultimately a safer life.
Any donations are gratefully received.
I would love to raise £100 for every mile ran, which would support 300 children. Let's see how we do!
