Story
Hi I’m Jack! As some people know at the end of March this year, I was admitted into the Manchester Royal Infirmary with Bacterial Meningitis. Where I spent a total of 11 nights trying to fight off what could have been life changing conditions.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to leave hospital without experiencing significant side effects and still maintaining physical capabilities. And because of this and due to the help and support I’ve received from Meningitis Now I would like to raise money and awareness for the charity, to enable them to develop more research into this illness.
To put into context how lucky I am, People with Bacterial meningitis have around 1 in 6 chance of this being fatal within the first 24 hours and 1 in 5 have severe complications.
Our Challenge
To raise awareness and money for Meningitis Now. Me and my close group of mates have decided to do a Charity Walk in the North Yorkshire Moors. Shout out to Corey T for the idea! The walk is called the Lyke Wake Walk and is 42 Miles long from one side of the moors to the other. Our aim is to complete this in 24 hours. This will be a big achievement for not only me after experiencing a life changing illness but for the rest of my friends too. I’m so grateful to anyone who can help support me along the way. If you’d like to join us at any point during the walk, please drop me a message, we’d love to have you with us!
Donate!
Now this is the tricky bit asking for your donations. Honestly anything will help this amazing charity out and it is one that is close to me so if you can donate anything at all I will be very grateful. The Walk will take place on 2nd September, so we have a great amount of time to try and hit the target of £2,000.
Finally..
Me and the guys will be showing parts of the walk on our social medias, and I will release a final video with the total amount raised after the walk. Thank you for your support and please wish us the best of luck. 😊
Lastly from myself this honestly does mean more to me than some people probably think. Speaking to the charity and the doctors during my time in the hospital and after, I know how Meningitis both viral and bacterial can change peoples and families lives forever. But by raising awareness and funds for the research we can help everyone effected by it through this Charity.
Thank you! 😊
