Story
The SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary is the world's first sanctuary of its kind, providing a new more natural home in the sea for captive beluga whales. On 7th August 2020, the Sanctuary's first two resident beluga whales, Little White and Little Grey, made history by moving safely into their new sea sanctuary care area in Klettsvik Bay, Iceland, and they have now had their first swim in the wider Sanctuary bay! In their new more natural home, the whales can dive and explore, experiencing the elements and natural flora and fauna.
Alongside the whales the Sanctuary also contains a small aquarium and a puffin hospital, where they take care of rescued birds from around the island helping them to recover and be released back into the wild. Each year during puffling season, the sanctuary is inundated with baby puffins that have been brought to the centre by the islands residents. These pufflings are brought in and cared for by the amazing staff and then they are released once they have been given a full bill of health.
In these recent unprecedented and challenging times, the Sanctuary has been unable to welcome as many visitors and the charity's income has been seriously impacted. A donation of any size would go such a long way to help continue the charity's work in caring for the Island's amazing inhabitants in their new home. Thank you so much for your support!
