Story
My Story:
In February 2023, My father had a stroke and has now become disabled as a result.
The stroke has affected his ability to walk independently and safely, he is still doing ongoing physiotherapy and requires mobility aids and has to be cared for. He also is now classed as legally blind as he has lost his peripheral vision in his left eye due to the brain injury he has suffered.
He has lost his independence, his ability to go and walk or drive where he pleases and relies on his partner to care for him. He has also psychologically been impacted by the stroke, facing a near-death experience, losing his identity and his abilities within mere minutes and having to come to terms with a life that he did not anticipate for himself.
Strokes can impact people in many ways and permanently alter someones life in a split second - and that impact is felt by everyone around them too. Brain injuries are life changing in ways that a lot of us cannot comprehend and takes away the simplest of abilities and opportunities that most of us take for granted every single day. It can happen to any one of us at any time.
Rehabilitation for stroke patients isn’t easy and isn’t always successful, but they are incredibly vital to help people regain even the smallest amount of independence, ability and confidence back in their lives – That’s why I’ve chosen to raise money for stroke association, people deserve dignity and care no matter what life throws at them.
It would mean a lot to me to be able to reach the goal I've set, not for myself, but for those who have had their lives turned upside down by Strokes.
