Story
On September 29, I'll be taking on the Berlin Marathon to raise vital funds for Dementia UK.
Someone develops dementia every three minutes, and there's currently no cure. Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity that provides life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's.
My gran was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2016 and sadly passed away in September 2021. Witnessing the devastating effect dementia can have was heartbreaking, and I want to help those in need of care and support. My gran is greatly missed and is the driving force behind my fundraising.
Since 2019, I have raised nearly £4,000 for dementia-related causes by running two marathons and, this year, I want to break the £5,000 mark. I'm also running the London Marathon on April 21 for Dementia UK in the hope of raising as much money as possible.
It's no secret that I love to run, but I'm certainly not at the point where I find marathons easy (I'm not even sure that point exists!). Part of the challenge this year will be training in the cold, dark winter months for London, and through a (hopefully) hot summer for Berlin - but this is a challenge I'm more than happy to take on to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.
Any donation you can make would be massively appreciated by me, my family and the charity.
Thank you so much!
Isobel xx
