Story
Isabella was born with Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease and had her first surgery at 8 weeks old. Isabella's health rapidly started to deteriorate when she was about 4 months old and was constantly in and out of the hospital with barely a week between admissions. When Isabella was 10 months old she got her life-saving liver transplant, thanks to her donor. Life after the transplant was very rocky for a while with a few complications including more surgery, extra treatment and additional tests. Isabella has a much better quality of life now, although it hasn't come without its own complications and additional diagnosis's in the past year.
Isabella spent a lot of time in King's College Hospital and all of Isabella's specialist liver care has taken place at King's College Hospital in London. This is where her care remains and has regular checkups.
Isabella is taking part in The British Transplant Games 2023 in Coventry for the first time and we are raising money to help!
Isabella will be a child competitor (under 5). Isabella plans to take part in the - ball throw, obstacle race, track 25m, bean bag archery and of course the donor run.
If you would like any more information on Liver Disease or the hospital, please let me know and I am happy to help.

King’s runs the largest liver transplantation programme in Europe and carries out some 50 paediatric transplants per year. Although most children return to a normal life after transplant, they are left with scars, and many experience psychological effects. They will usually need lifelong medication; frequent hospital appointments; blood tests and other procedures; and are more susceptible to illness and infection. The differences from their peers can make transplant children feel very isolated. Every year 20+ King’s transplant children and their families attend the British Transplant Games; we want to grow this team to enable more children to share the benefits. Being part of the team provides support long after the event, and creates lifelong memories. With King’s patients coming from across the country, the Transplant Games is an important way to bring families together. To find out more about the team please email team manager Jo Ramsay at kingschildrenstt@gmail.com.
