Fundraising for Encephalitis International
In July 2022, I became very unwell with progressively worsening neurological symptoms. 10 months later after being in intensive care, I was diagnosed with NMDA encephalitis, and have been in treatment to stabilise my condition ever since. As I have tried to make sense of my illness, charities like encephalitis international have been invaluable and I want to support their mission to raise awareness and advance research.
Encephalitis is life changing and though I have been left with a number of challenges to overcome including an acquired brain injury,
I now feel well enough to try and walk a km everyday and raise some pennies for a charity that has helped me and my understanding immensely. It may be a small challenge to some people but will be huge to me! As World Encephalitis Day falls on 22 February, this feels like an important month to me. Any donation, no matter how small, would be so appreciated thank you! Love Bella x
Worldwide, three people are diagnosed with encephalitis (brain inflammation) every minute. Caused by infection or autoimmune diseases, it can affect anyone. It is an acutely serious condition with high mortality rates, leaving many who do survive with an acquired brain injury - potentially affecting them physically and/or affecting their memory, thinking and personality for the rest of their lives.
Encephalitis International's mission is rebuilding futures of those affected: saving lives, accelerating awareness and driving research.
