Story
Thank you for visiting my page. I’m proud to be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 and raising important funds and awareness for Anaphylaxis UK, a charity of great importance to me.
Nearly 5 years ago, whilst on a run with a friend, I suddenly went into Anaphylactic shock. I was picked up and taken home unaware of how severe the reaction was. After around 15 minutes I could hardly breathe and we jumped in the car and rushed to the hospital. I was given several shots of adrenaline and was told I was lucky to be alive. I was extremely lucky that day but unfortunately others are not and it is very important to raise awareness for such a common and serious condition.
I was later diagnosed with Pork Cat Syndrome (Food Dependent, Exercise Induced Anaphylaxis). This is quite a rare condition and there is little research within this area, another important reason to raise awareness.
In the UK, 1-2% of adults and 5-8% of children have a food allergy; this equates to nearly 3 million people. Hospital admissions due to allergies and anaphylaxis in England have nearly doubled in the last twenty years.
Anaphylaxis UK is the only UK-wide charity operating solely for the growing numbers of people at risk of serious allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. For 30 years, they have been striving for a brighter and safer future for everyone living with a serious allergy by providing trusted and scientifically-based resources and training to individuals and families, education settings, businesses, and healthcare professionals.
Thank you for supporting my journey and the vital work of Anaphylaxis UK.
