Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Ioanna Nixon, I am an oncologist (or else cancer doctor) in the Beatson, and the Clinical Director for oncology services NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
I will be lifting 10.000 kg over 5 consecutive days in June. Why? For a cause that speaks to my heart. I am doing this to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity, our charity helping so many people with cancer and their families.
I am also doing it to raise awareness on cancer, a diverse and very common disease affecting many! People frequently describe cancer journey as “heavy lifting”, and also mention the importance of the support by the health and care team, as well as third sector. The Beatson Cancer Charity is a huge support to our patients, their families and us as professionals supporting our research and innovation. I will be powerlifting as an act of acknowledgement to both; for patients, families, my fellow workers, and the Beatson Cancer Charity.
Lastly, this challenge, aims to also raise awareness on the importance of strengthening training and physical activity in general for all! I will be posting my progress through social media, as well as some “educational videos” with facts on how physical activity improves our health and wellbeing, even in the face of a disease.
All of the money I raise will be used to support the Beatson Cancer Charity, and help make our environment more welcoming, relaxing to all our patients and families. It will make an incredible difference to people with cancer treated at the Beatson. 🙏
