Story
Hi, I’m Ioan. I’m 17 and have been deaf since birth. Being deaf has posed many challenges in my life, none of which I have let get the better of me. With the right help and support this can be the case for all deaf children.
Hearing impairments are sometimes subtle and can easily go unnoticed. However their impacts are quite the opposite. Deaf children often lack confidence, social skills, and relationships because of their difficulty communicating with others their age. Without the right guidance, young deaf people become isolated and lonely and even subject to bullying. All of which have dramatic effects at such a young, important age.
The NDCS have worked with me, my family, and the deaf community around me for as long as I can remember. As a child I was cute enough to be one of their poster boys on magazines and newspapers, (god knows where those looks went). They supported us by offering guidance, equipment, and education. And helped me develop skills and attributes that I still have now (just not the luscious blonde hair).
The NDCS continues to play a massive role in hundreds of thousands of deaf children’s lives across the UK helping them to gain confidence and independence, and understanding that being deaf does not have to be an obstacle.
Any donations are appreciated. Thank you.
Io :)
