Story

Hello! Thank you for making it to my Just Giving page.

In June 2024 I am taking part in the 100km continuous Lake District Challenge! This means I’ll be walking from 8am until whatever time I complete the 100km distance.

Some of you may remember that I set myself the challenge of completing the January 2023 London Winter Walk Marathon with Cerys’ family. However, due to injury I had to postpone. Now I’m fully functional again, I thought I’d set a bigger, tougher challenge.

Our Cerys

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Katie, but this story isn't about me. This is about our Cerys.

Cerys was, and still is, my best friend in the whole wide world! She had the kindest soul and always put so much into helping other people, both in life and in death. If you were having a rubbish day she'd be there to listen, send you motivational memes, make you laugh, and make sure you knew you weren't alone.

Cerys spent a lot of her time donating to various causes and took part in a 10km run to raise money for a charity she was passionate about. She was also a regular at donating blood and I quickly lost count of how many times she sent me photos at the blood clinic! Cerys registered as an organ donor and after her death 4 individuals received her organs. In the future, others may receive her corneas and other tissue. Cerys's impact on this world just never stops!

Cerys had struggled with her mental health since an early teen, yet despite this, she smashed her GCSEs and A'Levels and went on to tackle a degree in Paediatric Nursing. (Nursing!!! Just another sign that Cerys's passion was to help others!).

Cerys battled with her mental health daily and sadly, in May, she attempted to take her own life. She spent 5 days in intensive care with by her family, girlfriend, and me always by her side. We spent those precious days surrounding Cerys with love and happy memories before she passed away on the 18th of May 2022.

I am raising money for the mental health charity MIND. Their campaign is to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. MIND provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.

Please, if you can, help keep Cerys's memory alive by donating to help others and sharing this page.
