Story
In April 2024, I will be running the London Marathon raising money for Shelter.
But...I won’t be wearing my usual running attire.
Instead, I will be sporting a full inflatable shark costume (yes you’ve read that correctly).
I will be attempting to set the female Guinness World Record for the Fastest Marathon in a Full Inflatable Suit.
To achieve this feat - my entire body including head and hands must be enclosed in the suit for the duration of the race and I must cross the finish line in less than 5h30 mins. It felt like a good idea at the time (until the suit arrived and I realised how restrictive and ridiculous it really is!).
If running 26.2 miles through central London dressed as a 8ft shark isn't embarrassing enough, you can increase my opportunities for public humiliation though your donations.
I pledge to do the following things in my inflatable shark suit if I meet the corresponding fundraising target:
* £500 - wear the shark suit to see The Hackney Sharks on Regent’s Canal
* £1000 - complete a Park Run in the shark suit
* £1500 - wear the shark suit to the Olympic swimming pool
* £2000 - if I reach this milestone I will match fund all donations up to this point
* £5000 - wear the shark suit to the natural history museum (and try not to get kicked out)
* £ 7000 - run along the beach in the shark suit and (hopefully not) scare the children (too much)
* £10000 - commute to work in the shark suit (via the London Underground)
I would really appreciate your support, and any donations you are able to make would be hugely appreciated by the charities.
Why Shelter?
Rent and house price rises have noticeably affected all of us over the last few years; but they disproportionately affect those on the lowest incomes.
Even small increases in rent push more and more people into temporary accommodation such as hostels and ultimately onto the streets.
Shelter campaign for social justice and a fairer housing system – one with more social homes, better renters' rights and a stronger welfare system that supports people through tough times.
Your donations will help to make longstanding changes to the UK’s housing system.
You can also help by signing a petition to make the next government finally take the housing emergency seriously, here.
