Indiana's Story

On the 15th of July 2024, our world changed forever. After a period of illness, we were devastated to learn that our beautiful daughter, Indiana, was suspected of having leukaemia. This news came as a tremendous shock, especially since Indiana appeared to be recovering well from appendicitis, which we believed was the cause of her recent health issues. After being admitted to the Piam Brown Children's Cancer Ward in Southampton, we began a heart wrenching journey of numerous tests and an agonising wait. A few weeks later, our worst fears were confirmed and Indiana was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).

Indiana’s diagnosis is still very new and our family is still trying to come to terms with it. She is in the early stages of her treatment, however we have been utterly amazed by her strength and resilience. For everything her 8 year old body is enduring, she is truly an inspiration.

For Indiana's Shine Walk, we are raising funds for Abby’s Heroes, a charity that in such a short period of time has already formed a close bond to our hearts. This organisation supports families of children diagnosed with cancer who are treated at Southampton Hospital. In this short period since Indiana's diagnosis, we have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact this charity has on families like ours.

About Indiana

Indiana is a bright, fun loving 8 year old with a big heart. She adores animals, especially funny cats and loves spending time with her friends and has a passion for all things Disney and arts and crafts. Her confidence and joy in life shine through even in the toughest of times.

About Abby’s Heroes

Abby’s Heroes provides vital support to children and their families under the care of the Piam Brown and Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) wards at Southampton General Hospital. As a center of excellence for children’s oncology, these wards care for patients from across the south of England. Abby’s Heroes offers financial and practical help, along with opportunities for families to create lasting memories together.

The charity provides financial grants to help families cope with the intense financial strain that often accompanies childhood cancer. They offer bereavement support, practical assistance and funding for special days out, allowing families to enjoy precious moments together despite the challenges they face.
