Story
Ann Walker (1803-1854) has inspired so many of us and her story continues to be uncovered. In her will, she left a legacy of £10 to be distributed at Christmas. This was given out to the people of Lightcliffe from the 1860’s until the 1970’s. We will be continuing to hear her voice and honour her legacy this year by fundraising for the Brighouse Central Foodbank. This is a chance to give back to something she held dear and keep her memory alive.
Ann's uncle, William Walker who died in 1809, had left the same legacy but it was unable to be continued so Ann added it to her will - that amount is worth approximately £1133 today - we will be starting with £500 goal as we know how generous you have been in previous years.
In the spirit of the Walkers’ bequests and in Ann Walker’s name we are raising money for the Brighouse Foodbank until Christmas Eve (24 December 2023) in order to honour her legacy. This foodbank is about 2.5 miles from Cliffe Hill, Ann Walker’s last residence.
You can donate directly here on this page and all funds go directly to the Brighouse Central Foodbank.
A food parcel for a family (2 adults, 2 children) costs about £58-62 per family.
