Story

Hey everyone,

Firstly, thank you so so much for bringing yourself to this page, it's appreciated beyond words!

Cheneise & Danielle here, we are climbing Mt. Snowdon on 29th July 2023 in the hopes of raising £3000 (or over) for The Brain Tumour Charity.

We have a group of 35 family and friends so far who have lovingly wanted to join in on the climb. It’s an open invite so if you feel like joining us please drop me an email; cheneise.mckeown@hotmail.co.uk, we’d love for you to be there, anyone welcome!

This charity is very close to my (Cheneise) heart; I lost my beautiful younger brother Callum to this evil disease on 18th June 2019 after he fought brain tumours for 13 of his short 20 years whilst here on earth.

Callum was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 6 years of age. He underwent a lengthy and risky operation to remove 1/3 of the tumour, had multiple blood transfusions and completed 18 months of chemotherapy all before reaching 9 years of age! In 2013 Callum, along with our parents flew to America to complete 2 months of proton beam therapy in the hopes of shrinking his tumour after recently becoming active again.

Years passed and the tumour remained stable but was always monitored and for a period of time Callum was able to go about his life with some level of normality. After going through college he became a learning mentor, better known to his pupils as 'Mr Mckeown'. Being the loving and caring character he is, he adored the children just as they did him and loved every aspect of his job.

Callum had his wish of becoming a daddy fulfilled when his beautiful daughter Isla-Grace entered the world in February 2019. He was the happiest, most grateful soul alive. Being a daddy came so naturally to him, and he gave every ounce of his energy to Isla-Grace. Just 2 months after, Callum had a fall and after a precautionary trip to the hospital for a scan, his world came crashing down. He was told they had discovered a second brain tumour. Callum underwent a biopsy on the brain on 8th May, but sadly suffered a huge bleed and was left brain damaged, unable to speak, eat, move, blink or communicate in any way at all. Callum fought for his life in intensive care for 5 weeks. It was then that we were told his brain tumour was a grade 4 glioblastoma and was terminal, it had started to take over…

Callum spent his last week on earth in the comfort of our family home, surrounded by his loved ones, but most importantly with his daughter in his arms.

He will be forever 20. Forever my little brother and my reason for everything!

With the 4th anniversary of Callum's passing approaching and what would have been his 25th birthday on 21st July, my beautiful friend Danielle suggested we remember & honour him by giving back in his name, hence the fundraiser :)

Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700 MILLION is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet LESS THAN 3% is spent on brain tumours!?

BRAIN TUMOURS CONTINUE TO KILL MORE CHILDREN & ADULTS UNDER THE AGE OF 40 THAN ANY OTHER CANCER!!!

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity & the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. They're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. Because if you, or someone you love is diagnosed with a brain tumour, a cure really can't wait!

Anyone who has witnessed brain cancer in a loved one or has sadly lost someone to this disease will know the devastating impact it has.
