Story
Hello Good People, I've always wanted to do something charitable and worthwhile and now is my chance, by running the TCS London Marathon 2024 for a really great cause - Children with Cancer UK
Each year, an estimated 400,000 children and adolescents of 0-19 years old develop cancer and cannot generally be prevented or identified through screening. Because it is generally not possible to prevent cancer in children, the most effective strategy to reduce the burden of cancer in children and improve outcomes is to focus on a prompt, correct diagnosis followed by effective, evidence-based therapy with tailored supportive care.
For 35 years, Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond.
To date, Children with Cancer UK has raised over £300 million, funded over 300 research projects, invested almost £10 million in family homes near hospitals, hosted ‘amazing days out’ for 75,000+ patients and their families. But there is still much more to do. We will not stop until we have achieved our vision.
About 6 months ago, I started taking up running to get healthy and improve my quality of life, so I set myself this monster challenge and decided on trying to find a way to help other, less fortunate people, along the way. With this thought in mind, I took the opportunity to help a cause which focuses on child health being the "fun uncle" to 9 nieces and nephews.
Please, please, please donate anything you can to this worthy cause! Your donations will not only help the children but will also spur me on through the gruelling training this marathon entails.
