Story

OUR TEAM NAME : WALK THE TALK

On April 1st 2024 we got a phone call that nobody ever wants to to say my brother Daz (kidda) had sadly taken his own life - he was 34 he was the life and soul, with a laugh so infectious and a heart of pure gold, he was so loved the church was packed and we threw him an outdoor Wigan pier wake because that embodied who he was 💙 as the oldest sibling you always want to protect the younger siblings and to have to relay this to them and our Mum who was away at the time was horrendous. As a family it’s made us stronger, it’s united us to love and protect each other more. I’ve always talked openly and honestly about my own mental health yet sadly there’s still not enough support out there and the system fails many and we are losing way too many people both male and female at very young ages.

We can’t go back and change what’s happened but we can fundraise and if we can save one life and help to keep breaking the stigmas attached to mental health and encourage people to talk more then it’s a positive way to use our grief and support those that lose people too 💙💙

Nobody should ever have to feel alone 💙💙

Let’s try and save some lives and remember it’s okay to talk, it’s okay to ask for help but also please tell everyone to never ever feel ashamed or feel lost because believe me the world is a better place with you in it 💙💙 it’s okay to talk, it’s okay to cry and it’s okay to not be okay 💙

We never know what other people are battling with in their heads if we don’t ask ‘how are you today’ We live in a world of social media and technology and it’s easy to hide behind screens 💙 human contact is important 💙

On Sept 22nd myself, my daughter in law Immy, my longest serving best friend Jenni and my amazing adopted sister Hannah are doing the Stride for Suicide walk to do as many laps as possible in a two hour time slot - we would love to raise as much as we can and every donation is important and appreciated so much 💙💙 I wouldn’t be here without them and my group of strong female and male friends and family and I’m forever thankful to them every day 💙

On average more than one person a week dies by suicide in Cumbria, more than double the amount that die on our County's roads. Every death by suicide is an avoidable tragedy.

Suicides are preventable. We need a society where people feel able to reach out for help. Where members our communities have the knowledge and skills to recognise when someone is at risk and to know how to offer support. And services that are accessible and effective.

Suicide is everyone's business 💙💕
