30th Anniversary Appeal
Campaign by Dyscover (RCN 1099432)
It's our 30th year of supporting people with aphasia and to celebrate this milestone anniversary, we would like to raise funds to help even more people who have this very isolating and frustrating communication disability. Please do support us!

Story

On October 28th, Zoe is aiming on swimming at least 1km, in our local swimming pool, to raise funds for Dyscover - who are in their 30th year of providing long term support and opportunity to people with aphasia and their families.

Dyscover have been hugely helpful and supportive in Zoe's Grandad's recovery after his strokes, including his most recent one in January this year. Among other things, Dyscover offer an ongoing support group where people can meet up for 2 hours every week. Where individuals can feel relaxed and confident in an environment where everyone understands the devastating effects suffered by people with aphasia.

Zoe has begun training and is aiming on swimming at least two times a week in the run up to the big event. So, please consider sponsoring Zoe, for the whole thing, by length, as little or as much as you would like to - thank you so much!!

A little more about Dyscover and what they do:

We are very proud to be in our 30th year of providing long term support and opportunity to people with aphasia and their families . We were established on 27th April 1994 and since then we have successfully adapted and developed our services and now provide both face to face and online support. Our aim is to be able to help even more people with aphasia.

Aphasia is a neurological condition, acquired through stroke, brain injury or rare form of dementia and is very isolating and frustrating. Aphasia affects a person's communication, including their ability to find words, construct sentences and to understand language, both written and spoken.

We work to inform, support and empower people with aphasia to manage their communication disability and to re-engage with life. We create an aphasia friendly community in which people feel included, valued and have a sense of purpose.

"It's getting better all the time...Dyscover has helped me to cope with my frustration and find space and time time to communicate my needs"

"It was like turning a light on. Coming to Dyscover has helped me to improve my communication skills, regain confidence and a zest for life"

We do not receive any statutory funding and so we rely on income from fundraising and donations to provide our crucial services . We need your support now more than ever and so please, do support our 30th anniversary appeal to help us make a difference to the lives of people with aphasia.

Thank you very much for your support!
