Story
ILX has selected to support the Menopause Charity to raise funds and awareness throughout 2023 and 2024. Read Nick's story below to find out why we chose this charity.
The Menopause Charity's inspiring vision is one of a world where the menopause is embraced and seen as new beginnings, adventures, and opportunities. And they want all women men, family, friends, health professionals, employers, colleagues and more to have access to evidence-based information; guidance on the physical and mental changes that a women's body goes through during perimenopause and menopause; and the appropriate care, tools and treatment to help manage these changes.
Here's Nick’s story :
My sister is currently going through an ovarian cancer scare and the doctors found a 15cm cystic structure near her ovaries, after a number of tests they believe it is low chance it’s cancer, but to eliminate the risk she will have total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy – where the womb, cervix, fallopian tubes (salpingectomy) and ovaries (oophorectomy) are removed on the 9th March which in its self will be a traumatic experience, but as a 42 year old women will be immediately thrown into Menopause, as you know (or may not) our Mum past away nearly 8 years ago at the age of 56 so the knowledge or awareness of menopause is less known to my sister, fortunately with the work, Sally and Paula have done I found myself in a better position to sign post my sister to resources, including the webinar Sally delivered so she can also make her company aware. I believe there are many people struggling and suffering in silence from the extensive side effects it can cause. So, I believe supporting this charity will raise awareness to all to benefit everyone.
