Story
Did you know that currently there are roughly 52 billion pieces of litter on land across the globe?
Here at Illuminet we are MaDD about the environment and are aware of the current state of the globe and the effects litter has on it. This is why we are holding a litter picking event, as part of our annual Make a Difference Day Initiative for 2024!
Join us to do one hour of litter picking on the 18th of May either locally or virtually to clean our land, our home, and our future.
What is this event?
- 1 hour of litter picking
- 100 people
- 10,000 pieces of litter picking collectively
- 1,000 native trees planted with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust
Why are we doing this and who is this for?
We are well aware of the damaging effects humans have on the planet, and to help build a better future we want to tidy up our local areas and clean the air we breathe by raising £10,000 that will be going to Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
Why litter?
Litter not only has an environmental impact, but it has an economic, legal and health one!
Did you know, the three main effects of litter include:
- Air pollution - which can be a serious hazard to all.
- Marine pollution – which has affected the number of our marine animals.
- Land pollution – which has affected the number of our land animals.
Why trees?
- Trees absorb carbon and help climate change.
- They create new habitats for wildlife and support biodiversity.
- They create natural spaces where people can relax and enjoy themselves and separate their work life with leisure to help improve mental health.
- Trees protect the landscape against flooding and erosions and even improve water quality.
- Trees restore part of our natural landscape that has been lost due to deforestation.
Why you should get involved!
Helping the environment is important. We are seeing the impact of climate change and pollution daily in our news today. So, it is so important to help and act together to improve the planet we live on.
