Story
We need your support to help raise enough money so playworker Max Alexander can co-create spaces where autistic people of all ages can celebrate and create opportunities for authentic autistic play, joy & connection through the Function Schmunction project.
A group of us are raising money for a project we care a lot about, Function Schmunction: an interactive play space where autistic children, young people, & adults to play, relax, unmask and be themselves.
We will be playing board games for 24hrs from 12noon on Saturday 14th to 12noon on Sunday 15th December to raise money to bring this much-loved project back to Glasgow and Edinburgh in 2025.
“It was a really special experience that felt like it had been made just for us.”
“It made me feel accepted and no judgement from others.”
“It was the best day ever!”
Function Schmunction was in part a response to many years of Max being told by adults supporting the autistic children he worked with that they ‘don't play’ or ‘don’t play properly’. Max wanted to respond to this in a way that centred authentic autistic play, creativity and experience.
We're applying for funds but there is huge competition and no guarantee that we'll be supported.
