Story
From a personal perspective, after losing my Dad to Pancreatic cancer on 23rd May 2013, only 9 weeks after diagnosis, I have lived through the impact of this illness on my family. My story is only one of many thousands across the UK.
With the effect of the pandemic reducing the number of people coming forward to check symptoms and the capacity strain on NHS resources to be able to address the demand, this campaign will directly support the creation of a new centre to increase capacity to treat more patients, fund new technology and equipment, and share knowledge to speed up future development of techniques and practices.
The new centre will enable Royal Surrey to treat 7,000 more patients every year, including those a with life-threatening cancer diagnosis.
Royal Surrey is a regional centre for cancer services supporting a population of up to 3 million (around 4.5% of the UK’s population).
60% of surgical procedures carried out at Royal Surrey are cancer related.
The new centre will reduce waiting times leading to better outcomes.
I would be very grateful for your support in sponsoring me to cycle 50 miles to raise funds for this great cause. I have not ridden this far since i was 23 and even allowing for VAT, thats a very long time ago!
All donations up to my target will be matched by my employer L&G.
Many thanks in advance.
Ian
