Story
The Mayor of the Borough of Telford & Wrekin, Cllr Ian Preece has chosen to support Severn Hospice for his 2024/2025 charity fundraising campaign as it is a cause that is particularly close to his heart. The Mayor has been a long-term supporter of the hospice, having already raised over £12,000 for them during his two terms as the Mayor of Dawley. To raise money Ian took part in extreme sports activities such as cycling for 99 hours from Lands' End to John O'Groats, cycling from Dawley to Dover in 24 hours and taking part in a 'Fire Walk' challenge. Already this year Ian has taken part in cycling from Telford to Wembley in 24 hours to raise money for this cause and wishes to continue these activities throughout his term in office.
Severn Hospice is dedicated to supporting families from the moment they're referred to its care for as long as they need it, and it does this every day, all day for anyone in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who needs that help. It does this for them for free, but it is not without cost and it can't happen without your support. For every £1 you donate, the hospice will spend 87p directly on care – and use the remaining 13p to make another £1. Last year, all those individual donations meant the hospice could be there when it mattered for 3,000 local families.
Throughout September care teams will be taking part in '2024 Walk In Our Shoes' walking 350,000 steps. They will be walking 10,000 daily steps while providing the specialist support that means so much to local people who need it. Anyone can take part in this challenge, even pets! However, to make this even more of a challenge, the Mayor will be walking the 350,000 steps over just 10 days!
