Hi everyone,
Who would have thought this eh, Fat boy running a marathon. Well here I am and raring to go, yes I need to loose a few more pounds, yes I need to get fitter, yes I need to give up the fast food the beer and the chocolate( well most of it anyway) . Not only am I going to be doing the Brighton marathon in April 2026 I'm also committed to run 10k in Match 2025 and 2 half marathons this year too. Venues and dates to be confirmed at a later date.
I'm doing all this for 3 reasons.
Firstly this is for a great cause "Wishes for Kids" who grant wishes for children and young people in Leicestershire who have life limited , terminally ill, have experianced life-changing physical or emotional traumas or have suffered serious abuse.
I have been to the offices and was overcome with all the photos on the wall of all the young people with massive smiles on their faces and being able to at least forget what they are going through for a day. If we can get a smile on the face of one more person that's got to be worth it, hasn't it.
Secondly, as you know I have had my health issues and I wanted to do something about this. Overweight and unfit I had to change. Lost about 3 stone now but still some way to go but I feel I am getting healthier and fitter all the time. I discovered running and it's something I love doing so why not combine getting healthy and raising some money for a fantastic cause.
Thirdly I must be insane, you all know me right, how the hell am I going to do 26.2 miles hauling this lump of a body around a marathon course, I will tell you why YOU, whether it is by donating money to this great charity or investing your time, energy, patience or support getting me through this I will be forever grateful.
Wish me luck, I will need it it bucket loads , but I tell you this I will Smash it every step of the way.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please go to the Wishes for kids website or Facebook page to Han me a look at the amazing work they do.
