Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are a group of 50 plus year old men in lycra who meet regularly to cycle the length and breadth of the country. Our challenge is to cycle from Paris to Monaco incorporating some of the mountains cycled by the Tour de France cyclists and a few of the pubs no doubt! We will be cycling on average 100 miles a day for 6 days ending up at the Grand Prix in Monaco.
We are raising money for Prostate Cancer UK as one of the group was unexpectedly diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and treated last year. Due to his healthcare screening, early diagnostics led to successful treatment.
Below are some of the very basic facts and figures about prostate cancer. Across the UK Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year on average – that's 143 men every day. Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 12,000 men every year.1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Around 475,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.
If we can raise awareness in men to get checked, this would be an incredible result as early diagnosis has proven to provide the most positive outcomes. Raising money for this charity is essential to develop research into further screening methods and treatments for this disease which affects so many men. Their support network and wealth of information on their website is invaluable. Through the charity’s website we understand that all men can access this link to a 30 second prostate health risk assessment https://prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker.
