Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving highlighting the sacrifice and dedication colleagues up and down the country make everyday.

My Justgiving challenge is ‘ The Deps Merseyside Police Station Challenge ‘ - a 100 mile bike and then a Marathon Run around all the Police stations across Merseyside .

As I near my retirement from policing on 31.3.23 I wanted to raise further awareness and also funds for these two wonderful charities . At a time where policing is rightly under scrutiny for the abhorrent behaviour of some and the significant lifelong impact this has on the victims , this cannot be allowed to overshadow the courage , care and compassion shown by colleagues up and down the country every second of every day . The sacrifice made by PC Neil Doyle and PC Dave Phillips will never be forgotten by their friends, family and colleagues and epitomises the public service provided by policing colleagues who I have been proud to work with for the last thirty years. Our colleagues deal with the most challenging and distressing incidents Imaginable , never taking a step backwards , and I would highlight those involved in Child Protection as perfect examples of this professionalism and dedication and of which I have had the privilege to lead for National Policing . Officers tending to fatally wounded children, dealing with the horrors and devastation of Road Traffic Collisions, knocking on the door to tell someone about the death of a loved one, entering houses day after day during COVID to protect the public whilst putting personal self and families at risk for the good of the public , confronting the most dangerous armed and violent offenders , investigating the most complex and challenging murders to bring offenders to justice ,viewing the most distressing images of children being abused, answering a telephone call to someone in distress who is about to take their own life .....the list goes on and on and on . Everyone will need the police sometime in their lives. We have brilliant people doing brilliant selfless courageous acts everyday , in stark contrast to the selfish few who cause so much damage to policing and irreparable human damage to the courageous victims who have come forward.

The trust of the public is the most essential ingredient of British Policing. Colleagues are working tirelessly to ensure this trust is not only rebuilt but gets stronger and stronger. It is also right that we are subject to scrutiny by the media , and I understand why for the daily 1000s of brilliant acts of courage and kindness by officers and staff , the one that will get the headline will be the negative one. No one will stand on the doorstep and clap policing like other professions and I understand that . However some of the headlines in both the media and on social media from journalists and ex colleagues that we have seen over recent weeks about police colleagues working under intense pressure and working tirelessly to help families in great need and distress have been quite frankly appalling.

The Doyle Phillips Foundation provides support for the families of colleagues when they need it most. The High Sheriff and Chief Constable s charity provides support for the brilliant voluntary community safety charities working throughout Merseyside particularly supporting the most vulnerable . Your support will help those in great need move forward with some light in their lives at a time of darkness and despair.

Policing has been fantastic for me , I have had the privilege to meet and work with some amazing selfless people both in policing and the partners we work with every day. Policing can take a lot too , but it has given me so much more. It’s a tough job but one I am proud to have served in 2 forces in Lancashire & Merseyside and at a national level . I have often used exercise especially running as a means of managing my own well being. So that's why I'm doing this particular challenge . I ll ride approximately 100 miles starting at 5am on 22/3 at Newton le Willows Police station , travelling to all Merseyside Police stations including the Wirral and up to Southport . Once Im at Southport my bike will be swapped for my trainers and I ll run a marathon passing the remaining police station s finishing at our HQ at Rosehill at ?? O’clock . It’s my way of saying thank you to the brilliant staff working for the public of Merseyside and highlighting the good and the great people in policing when we understandably hear so much about the bad. This will be completed as a solo event but anyone is welcome to join me for the last run in to Rosehill. Thank you for all your support for me throughout my policing service and support for this challenge and most of all for the support for these two brilliant charities whether that’s through a message of support or any kind donations you can make 🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️
