Story
12 February to 26 March 2024
I am walking 96 miles for my granddaughter Gemma 💎 . Gemma suffers from a rare condition called WWOX WOREE syndrome (http://wwox.org)
My challenge is to do 16 miles a week for 6 weeks finishing on 26 March 2024 which is #WorldPurpleDay
I am walking to raise funds for #EpilepsyAction.
My son and his wife are incredible parents to Gemma and thankfully have an amazing group of friends to support them and Gemma.
They are well supported by their paediatric consultant, epilepsy specialist nurse and childrens services from Dorset county hospital.
There needs to be more awareness of this extremely rare condition.
How I plan to do 96 miles:-
I will clock up the majority of these miles while cutting/rolling/marking the pitch at Weymouth FC Bob Lucas Stadium as a volunteer Groundsman as well as playing “Walking Football” with Weymouth FC in the Community.
Significant dates during my challenge:-
12 February is #InternationalEpilepsyDay
16 February is #WWOXAwarenessDay
26 March is #PurpleDay for epilepsy awareness
Any donations gratefully received.
Epilepsy Action is the UK’s biggest community of people who want a better future for people affected by epilepsy.
The charity offers free vital services such as their Freephone helpline, website, local Talk and Support groups around the UK, e-learning courses, and their Befriending service. The charity’s freephone helpline is a vital service, with trained advisors who provide much-needed advice and support.
I'm fundraising to help make a difference so that Epilepsy Action can continue to provide these services when people need it most.
