Story
If you’re considering donating, here’s some information:
What’s the charity? 🤔
MAA : a student-founded, grassroots charity dedicated to improving the health of mothers in developing countries.
What do they do?🧐
MAA provides free healthcare, medicine and education to mothers and young girls, in hopes of improving maternal mortality and empowering the next generation, currently mainly in Bangladesh but with the aim of growing their reach to more countries. In Bangladesh, maternal mortality is the third leading cause of death. 90% of these deaths are preventable. Maa is an international grassroots charity that aims to improve maternal healthcare in resource-poor settings.
What’s the event:
Students from across the country are invited to take part in a hike through the peak district. The money raised will provide vital healthcare for mothers in resource poor areas of Bangladesh.
Why am I taking part?🤨
I spoke to a student who recently travelled on one of the MAA health camp trips and her account of what she learnt and her drive to make a difference encouraged me to take part too. Also I thought it would be nice way to make some friends and get out in the countryside 😊
This year the following University of Manchester societies have united to collectively fundraise for MAA:
- Widening Participation Medics
- Afghan Society
- Pakistani Society
- BAMEdical Society
- Scrubbed Up Organisation
