My students at North Hertfordshire College have challenged me to abseil down side of Lister Hospital, an 11-storey Tower Block, to raise funds for the Sunshine Appeal at Lister Hospital on Saturday 23rd March 2024.

The Sunshine Appeal has been set up to transform the outside areas at Lister Hospital's ICU to benefit patients, visitors and staff. The project so far has raised £392k with £77k to go. This is to provide an outside terrace so patients in the intensive care unit can be pushed outside in their beds to see the sky.

“A new rooftop garden balcony will allow us to move patients in their beds, with all the necessary equipment, out into the open air. We want to create a beautiful space in which patients can feel fresh air, see the sky and have some time away from the machines and bright lights of the wards. The sad fact is, in some cases, it may be the last time they get to see the sky.”
