Story
After the tragic losses this past year I (Lewis) have spent a long time feeling pretty helpless and sad about everything. Losing three people I loved very much in the space of just a few weeks is still so hard to make sense of sometimes.
However, with Ash's help on one of our long distance head clearing walks, we came up with this idea to do a challenge. The goal to put a little bit of good back into the world somehow and maybe help make a difference to people who need the support.
We decided to walk to raise money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). CALM helps so many people deal with living miserably and are making an important stand against suicide. They’re there to offer support and guidance for everyone who’s struggling with life no matter what they’re going through. Head over to www.thecalmzone.net if you want to find out more about CALM or you can find them on your preferred social network as well.
The plan is to hike 125km over 5 days in August, walking from Southampton to Reigate and up some very large hills. That’s 1km for each of the 125 lives that are lost every week to suicide in the UK. We’ll both be donating £125 and our goal is to double our total amount and hit £500. This would mean covering the cost of around 40 potentially lifesaving calls to CALM’s helpline, of the 28,000 they receive every month.
We know that times are tough, so if you can’t donate but want to help in some way then we’d love to hear from you.
Be sure to follow our Instagram (instagram.com/herethereorsomewhere) for regular updates on training and plans for the walk. We also encourage you to reach out to people. You never know who may be struggling with everyday problems as well as more extreme situations. Our Instagram/Whatsapp/texts are always open.
Thanks for reading all this, be excellent to each other.
