Story

London to Paris Cycle Challenge in Memory of Richard Parkin

About the Challenge

A group of dedicated individuals from Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, Barry Carter, John Mulvey & Jayne Thomas are embarking on an incredible journey, cycling from London to Paris to raise funds for Sarcoma UK. This challenge is not just about the miles; it’s about honouring the memory of our dearly loved colleague, Richard Parkin, who sadly passed away from cancer.

Itinerary

• Day 1: London to Dover – 130km (80 miles) Our journey begins in London, where we pass through the outskirts of London onto quieter roads into rural Kent. We cycle through the beautiful English countryside, across the hills of the North Downs making our way to the historic port town of Dover.

• Day 2: Dunkirk to Cambrai – 163km (102 miles) After crossing the Channel, we will start our French adventure in Dunkirk, cycling roughly parallel to the Belgian border. This is a long day in the saddle and the area we pass through saw a great deal of action in WW1. This scenic route takes us to Cambrai.

• Day 3: Cambrai to Soissons – 117km (73 miles) From Cambrai, we will pedal through charming villages and picturesque landscapes, with great views of the River Somme. The last section of this route is steep climbs before arriving in the historic town of Soissons.

• Day 4: Soissons to Paris – 130km (80 miles) The final undulating leg of our journey takes us from Soissons around the Arc de Triomphe on our way to the finish point in the heart of Paris, where we will celebrate our achievement under the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Why We Ride

Richard Parkin was more than a colleague; he was a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration to us all. His battle with cancer has deeply affected everyone at the Society, and we want to honour his memory by supporting Sarcoma UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by sarcoma.

How You Can Help

Your support can make a significant difference. By donating to our cause, you are helping Sarcoma UK fund vital research, provide support to patients and their families, and raise awareness about this rare and aggressive form of cancer.
