Story
Prospect Hospice is a primarily community-funded charity which - for over four decades - has provided specialist, compassionate and personalised round-the-clock care to people with advanced and progressive life-limiting illnesses. They offer the only dedicated, non-hospital end-of-life care service to a community of over 330 thousand people which stretches across north east Wiltshire to Gloucestershire, including Swindon, Marlborough, Royal Wootton Bassett, Lechlade and Fairford.
Their mission is to ensure that everyone lives and dies well, in comfort, peace and ultimately with choice and dignity at the end of their life. Their support extends to carers, family and friends. In close partnership with local health and social care professionals, they ensure that anyone can access the best possible care whenever and wherever they need it, completely free of charge.
Sounds precious doesn’t it? It most certainly is and something we all hope to have when our time comes. However…
Prospect Hospice are facing genuine threat of closure. They need our help now more than ever. It’s on us to protect this special place for ourselves and our loved ones, for generations to come.
Each year it costs several million pounds to provide the care that patients and their families so desperately depend on and deserve. Only a quarter of their funding comes from statutory organisations like the NHS – the rest must be raised.
We (the organisers of ‘Hope for Prospect Music Fest’), Ellen Travers-Gaisford and Sinéad Nolan-Martin met through our singing group - Bel Canto - and have our own personal experiences of the hospice. Like many, we know how much of a difference it makes to have their excellent unmatched care not only for those facing illness, but those that matter to them. The latest news of their struggle has deeply troubled us and we wanted to do something to help.
After an inspiring trip to perform in the Paris Music Festival in May 2024, we decided to bring the power of music to Swindon to celebrate and help our hospice and where better to amplify that sound than Christ Church! So… ‘Hope for Prospect Music Fest’ was born!
