Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are climbing Mount Snowdon to raise money for Diabetes UK (Phil, Honor, Lugh and Laurie along with our friends Rich, Mike, Hayley,Brad, Ang and Lou).
In 2021 we lost my brother Andrew (the best brother, uncle, son, husband and Dad anyone could ever ask for) to Leukaemia. His eldest sons (Dom and Charlie) were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and in Andy's memory we are raising money for Diabetes UK.
As many of you know, Honor also has had T1D since 1976. At that time, Honor was the youngest person to have been diagnosed with T1D in N. Ireland at 20 months old and her family were told that her future wasn't great with life expectancy of around 20 years, she would not be able to go to a mainstream school, and would not have children or a normal life.
For those of you that know Honor, you know what a pain in the ass she is and how she likes to prove them wrong so as she approaches 50 next year, with two healthy sons, she will receive a medal from the King shortly for having survived with T1D and for the work she has done to help improve Diabetic Care for those coming after her. And climbing Mount Snowdon will further prove how wrong they were when she was diagnosed!!
Rich, who is also climbing Mount Snowdon with us has a T1D son, Harry, who was diagnosed in 2022 having just turned 8. So he is at the very start of his journey.
Diabetes utterly sucks but Diabetes UK has helped us all a lot over the years (Honor, Charlie, Dom and Harry) and we are particularly grateful to them for all their courses, advice, tips and tricks, adventure camps and weekends away.
Thank you for all your support and we look forward to sending you pictures of the event.
