Story
We are so excited to take on the mega challenge of Everest Base Camp, trekking up to an altitude of 5,500m over 16 days.
We will be raising money for Sobell House Hospice and for a range of children's charities via the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation.
Hannah - Why Sobell House?
As many of you will know I lost my beautiful Mum in 2014 when I was pregnant with Wilbur, her first grandchild.
Mum spent 2 weeks in Sobell House before we finally lost her. She had a lovely room overlooking the communal garden, the nurses were like angels, giving me the space and guidance to care for my Mum and offering me emotional support and counselling when they found out I was pregnant. I will never forget the kindness and compassion we both received from the nurses and volunteers.
Mum would have been 70 in November last year, and when she was 49 years old she took on and completed this very challenge. In memory of her and to retrace her footsteps, Holly and I will be setting off in April to climb to Everest Base Camp.
It would be fantastic if we could stock the hospice gin trolley or buy something that might just make someone's last few days on Earth a little bit more comfortable.
Holly - Why SJP Charitable Foundation?
I'm delighted to be accompanying Hannah on this incredible challenge in memory of her amazing Mum.
I have been involved with the SJP Foundation for some time and have seen first-hand the difference its funding makes to young people and their families.
I feel passionately about continuing to support the Foundation with my time and am really excited at the opportunity to now also raise a significant sum of money through our Everest challenge knowing what a difference we can make.
The Foundation offers grants to small and medium sized charities across the UK and overseas. They cover a broad range of charities from young people with special needs or disadvantaged backgrounds, to offering support and respite for cancer patients and helping fund the ever-growing demand for local mental health services.
We will be splitting any funds raised between the two charities.
All contributions are gratefully received for these fantastic causes, and will certainly give us the boost we need during our training and on what we anticipate will be some very cold and long days on the mountain.
Thank you,
Holly and Hannah.
