Hillingdon's fundraiser for Stroke Association

When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.
We are an SAVG under the Stroke Association for stroke survivors in the Hillingdon Borough. We provide a space for people to attend our group share their story. Some people come to our group for respite, while carers visit services in Uxbridge such as Carers Trust, Age UK or the two shopping centres in the area.
During a routine meeting, we provide stroke recovery activities, focusing on hand-eye coordination, speech therapy, memory and mathematics. We also host weekly quizzes, encouraging a friendly atmosphere of competition.
Overlapping support needs often arise within our group, and we provide person-centred care by initiating contact with suitable organisations, bridging our members to other charities to overcome technological / communication / travel barriers.
The main aim of the Stroke Association is to reduce the number of strokes that happen, either by furthering medical research or by improving the lifestyles of individuals at risk. The Stroke Association upholds the importance of community groups such as ourselves to support people with on-going assistance after their stroke. It is vital for our services to continue to expand so that our group can become a point of contact for recently discharged people, families and health professionals.
