Story

When our much loved colleague Neil Cundale died in October 2023, we committed to helping his wife Liz raise £100,000 for the Hospice of St Francis which took care of Neil during his illness. Our staff are embarking on everything from epic walks to football tournaments with clients and friends to raise as much as we can for this wonderful charity.

4 May IOW Ultra - completed!

Simon Speller took on the epic Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge on 4 May. He completed the grueling 106km walk in 24 hours and raised around £8,000 while he was at it. A truly awesome achievement Simon!

You can take a look at his highlights video here https://vimeo.com/943995280?share=copy

8 June Ridgeway Ramble - completed!

We know that Neil enjoyed walks on The Ridgeway, so we decided to walk the last 26 miles of this national trail finishing at Ivinghoe Beacon. 26 miles is fitting as Neil ran a few marathons in his time, plus he would have celebrated his 42nd birthday this year - 26 miles is 42km! Our walkers were Karen Winrow, Sue Elmer, Carly Robins, Steve Turner, Leena Tailor, Ume Siddique, San Hodson, Chris White, Alex Fuller and Neel Badiani. Thanks to HS2 causing a slight diversion on the route, we ended up doing 27 miles in just over 9.5 hours

4 July Cundale Cup - completed!

20 teams took part in our now annual football tournament named in honour of Neil. Thanks to everyone's achievements, we were able to raise £4,500 for the hospice. Everyone put in a huge amount of effort to make this such a fun and competitive event that we know, given his keen interest in football, Neil would've loved to have been a part of.

Sunday 8 September Great North Run - Completed!

Two of our dedicated principals, Neal Carter and Gary Wong, will be participating in the Great North Run 2024. This iconic race stretches from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields, covering a distance of 13.1 miles and boasts an unbeatable atmosphere and epic views. The event attracts thousands of runners from across the globe, so we couldn't be more proud of Neal and Gary for getting involved in memory of Neil.

“Nell was a keen runner and we’re very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in the Great North Run. Liz has put together a team of 21 runners who will be running in aid of the Hospice of St Francis. In this latest event for A Year for Neil, please take the time to sponsor us as it is going to a brilliant cause who took incredible care of Neil.” - Gary Wong, Principal, Hillier Hopkins
