Story

Colourful Heritage started 10 years ago to capture the rich and long South Asian story in Scotland. With inspiring first-hand video interviews, a museum exhibition, education resources and a digital timeline, we seek to preserve the stories of our elders for future generations.

The British Indian Army (BIA) played an instrumental role in World War I and World War II and other conflicts. Four million Indian soldiers fought alongside the British Army, with over 161,000 losing their lives and many more injured. Despite their immense contribution, their sacrifices have not been fully recognised. We want to change that by building Scotlands first National Memorial dedicated to the BIA in Glasgow.

Our project aims to build a fitting tribute to the soldiers who fought and died alongside their British counterparts. We believe that it is important to honour their service and ensure that their legacy is never forgotten.
