Story
On Easter Sunday 2024 (31st March), I started a walk from St Wilfrid’s in Haywards Heath, to Rome. I'm fundraising to support repairs and renovations to the leaking vestry at St Wilfrids Church.
In total, I'll be walking approximately 2400 km (1500 miles), across South-East England, France, Switzerland and Italy. The route follows footpaths in Sussex and Kent, then joins the Pilgrim’s Way, and finally the Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome. I expect it will take three months to walk.
I’m posting weekly updates on my website (www.hhpilgrim.co.uk), so if you are interested in seeing how I am doing, that's the place! As of the time of writing (beginning of June) I have walked 1600 km, and having crossed the Alps, am now walking in flat Lombardy.
I would be humbled and honoured if you would consider sponsoring me in support of improving St Wilfrid’s Community facilities - details below.
Thank you all so much for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
The plan:
The vestry and toilet area at St Wilfrid’s is in need of a lot of attention. The roof is leaking and much of the contents is very often wet. Water is now leaking into the main church building, which is a big problem, given the roof is Victorian wood. The plan is to carry out repairs to the vestry roof, and simultaneously to provide proper facilities (toilets and kitchenette) for both the church, and to enable wider use of our church building within our local community. St Wilfrid's could be a fantastic venue for concerts, and community use, but presently the facilities let it down - despite being a victorian church, the toilet is positively medieval.
