Story
The Hessle Waits are pleased to announce our return to Christmas carolling this December after three years of absence.
We are a group of traditional Christmas carol singers based in Hessle, East Yorkshire, founded in 1916. Our continuing mission has been to sing to help others in our community. We first began singing Christmas carols in 1916 assist sick children in Hull’s Victoria Hospital for Sick Children, before fundraising for the orphanage at Hesslewood Hall.
Today, we sing around Hessle during December, and the focus of our group remains to raise as much money as possible for a worthy, charitable cause. Since 1984, our support has gone to Dove House Hospice. Since then, the Hessle Waits have raised a grand total of £82,000 thanks to the generosity of Hessle residents.
Like all of society, the Waits has suffered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and singing as an activity was particularly badly affected. However, after a pause of 3 years, the Hessle Waits are bouncing back stronger than ever.
We are looking forward to bringing some traditional Christmas cheer into the lives of all our residents for another 100 years.
