Story
Hi all,
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Henry and I have spent a lot of my life in the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London. I have had around 100 surgeries and the dedication and care they have shown me has been truly amazing. I have also been to the British Transplant Games twice before and will be competing again this year with my team, the Evelina VIP's.
On my 1st birthday in 2011, I had my first kidney removed and then in 2021 I had a kidney transplant and 2 years after that, I was wheelchair bound for 6 months and needed a knee operation which I’m still recovering from.
So, I have decided to do something massively outside of my comfort zone and am going to try and do 10 laps of Kenley Aerodrome on my bike. This will be on Sunday 25th May at 10.00am. I have been training every week with my dad, have really got into it and I can’t wait to push myself to do the 35k.
If any of you would like to join me, I would love to see you and I would just like to tell you a little bit more about what I am raising money for.
The Evelina London VIPs are the children's transplant sports team. The team is comprised of children who received a kidney transplant and who are under the long term care of the transplant team at Evelina London Children's Hospital.
They are known as the VIPs (Very important people, patients and penguins!) as their transplant clinic is in the penguin zone of our hospital!
A kidney transplant is a lifelong treatment, not the cure many people think! Having a child with a significant health condition impacts everyone in the family and their annual trip to compete at the British Transplant Games is about encouraging fitness in their young patients. Importantly it is their way of facilitating out of hospital support "Support through Sport" not only for the child with a transplant, but their brothers and sisters and parents.
Thank you all for your donation, every penny makes a difference.
