Story
In early September I am planning to swim from Albania to Corfu to raise money for the Ionian Environment Foundation which supports four local Ionian charities/initiatives dedicated to marine line, the environment and education. Armed with only a pair of goggles and a swimming cap I will have to confront both the jelly fish and the Minoan Lines ferries, in my attempt to swim the 3km stretch from Albania to Corfu. This will be no mean feat as I am not known for my swimming prowess and hence will be relying largely on the current flowing the right way so I don’t end up in Sagiada instead of St Stephano....
The four charities/initiatives supported by the Ionian Environment Foundation are:
* Oceans Education for Remote Ionian Schools, which educates young people about the importance of marine conservation.
* Reposidonia, which is a charity which protects Sea Meadows in the Mediterranean. Sea Meadows are also known as the ‘Lungs of the Mediterranean as they release large amounts of oxygen, whilst also absorbing over 15 x more CO2 than rainforests.
*The Ionian Dolphin Project, which is a charity set up to provide solid data on dolphins around Paxos and AntiPaxos
*The Sustainability in Sailing pack which advises boat users on good practice and how to minimise ecological harm.
Thank you in advance for your support... I will keep you posted!
