Story
On the 10th March 2024, I will be running the Barcelona Marathon to raise funds for James’ Place in memory of my dear friend, Arthur Soames. Arthur’s death through suicide was extremely devastating to all who knew him.
The charity at James’ Place was launched in 2018 by the parents of James Wentworth-Stanley whose son went looking for someone to talk to about his anxiety and suicidal thoughts but sadly didn’t find the urgent help he needed. They embarked on their own marathon journey to ensure safe spaces were available for men with such thoughts. They now have two (nearly 3) centres - one in London, one in Liverpool and one opening soon in Newcastle - through which 1500 men have been treated and over 7500 therapy sessions delivered. It is shocking that the single leading cause of death of men under 50 is suicide related. The charity believes that no man should face a suicidal crisis alone. James's Place provides free, professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope. Please join me in helping them raise funds for this cause and in memory of Arthur.
